In the Beginning

Years ago, in the 1980’s, in a magazine {remember those?} named Omni, I read an article about infamous predictions that had been made throughout history.

One of them said, “In February of 1962 there occurred an ominous alignment of the planets in Capricorn, prompting everyone to believe that it signified the birth of the 3rd and final Antichrist.”

The reason I remember it so well is because I was born in that month, in that year. In the 1960’s “The Age Of Aquarius” was a hit song, so I already figured that one day, me and my fellow Aquarians would be ruling the earth, and peace and love would prevail… I’m still waiting.

Anyways, back to me being the 3rd and final Antichrist. I was a bit bratty sometimes as a child, and I was a troubled teenager, so after I read that article in my twenties, I looked for any indication that I might indeed be the evil one.

The only sign that I found was that I can get a smidge cranky when I first wake up. But, I’m sure that even Jesus and his disciples were a tad peckish before they had their first cup of coffee in the morning, especially after drinking all that wine the bible says they drank.

Fortunately, I’m not Antichrist the 3rd. I’m sure that he’s rich, powerful, commands respect, and all that, but my studies tell me that the 1st and 2nd Antichrist’s were allegedly Napoleon and Hitler respectively.

And both of them tried to take over the world, and although I’m still willing to help my fellow Aquarians take over, it would really cut into my “me” time.

However, that strange ominous alignment of the planets in February of ’62 might help to explain why I’ve always had a penchant for the mystical, philosophical, and esoteric side of life.

“Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune.”*

I’ve always been a voracious reader because I love to learn, and use my imagination. And anything that you want to learn or improve at, you can study, practice, and master. That is the true meaning of quality – consistent and never ending improvement.

I’ve studied long and hard, searching for my life’s purpose, because for many years I was lost. But, finally I hit rock bottom, which was the day that turned my life around forever.

Fortunately, I was able to tap into a wealth of knowledge from the first couple of self-help books that I had read years before by Tony Robbins. Then I was inspired to start reading more self-help books. Then dozens more. Then hundreds more, many of them several times over.

Then I discovered Tony’s mentor – Jim Rohn, and so many others. I studied hard, meditated upon what I had learned, then added my own key insights.

The lesson is that we can’t help but take in, use, and share with others, all the things that we learn from our mentors and influences.

To me, self-help is self-improvement because its sub-categories include: health, exercise, nutrition, wealth, investments, sharing, business, purpose, mission, science, quantum physics, and obviously, the universal laws of mind. Plus more.

Once I discovered that universal laws, for instance, are very real, and that using them can drastically improve your life, I then mastered them.

All those self-help books & audios really have helped me to turn my life around, and put me on the road to success. And that’s why I know that they work, and that they can help you as well.

But, it’s all up to you. Do you want to settle for a life of mediocrity when deep down inside you know that you’re capable of much more?

Aren’t you sick of those celebrities, artistic types, and entrepreneurs having all the fame and fortune? Aren’t you tired of hearing “the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer”?

I write a lot about wealth, but wealth is a relative thing. You don’t need to be a self-made millionaire to be happy, free, and able to give to others. Doing the best you can to be financially independent, healthy, and finding purpose to your life is the road to happiness.

You can strive to achieve that kind of happiness, if you want it badly enough. It’s really not that hard to turn the TV and the internet off, and read a life changing book instead. And the benefits are like those of compound interest – they keep building on each other – book by book.

And like Jim Rohn said when he quoted his mentor Earl Shoaff, “If you want to be wealthy, study wealth…If you want to be healthy, study health…if you want to be happy, study happiness.”

That’s my favorite quote ever because it instilled within me this basic truth – that anything anyone else can do, we can learn how to do, at least equally as well.

All the best, – Herb.
