How To Get Motivated

“Don’t Find Fault, Find A Remedy; Anybody Can Complain”*

If it wasn’t for Henry Ford, life as we know it might not exist today. Ford changed the face of the world by inventing, then mass-producing the automobile.

Without his “horseless buggy” as it was initially called, there would have been no need for so many roads, highways, gas stations, fast-food franchises, and motels.

It’s hard to believe that at first Ford was actually laughed at, and considered by many to be a crazy inventor. But, crazy or not Ford was a high achiever who knew how to get and stay motivated.

Lacking formal education and any training as a mechanic, Ford educated himself. He was the ultimate expression of determination because he refused to accept any limitations.

“Anything Worth Having, Is Worth Working For”*

In NLP: The New Technology Of Achievement{<Free Audiobook} by NLP Comprehensive, they show how to model successful people. When you find out what steps they’ve taken and how they think, then you can do and think the same way and get the same results.

That always made sense to me, so in order to become a high achiever myself, I studied success and came up with a formula to get myself motivated. Here’s what I deduced.

In analyzing and interviewing over 500 of the richest and most successful people of his era, Napoleon Hill wrote his Keys To Success: The 17 Principles Of Personal Achievement {<Free Audiobook}.

And just like NLP teaches, Hill also concluded that if you want success, then study successful people and do and think as they do.

A few of the many people that Hill interviewed were Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, and Thomas Edison. These great men were all powerhouse achievers.

I’ve found that 2 of Hill’s 17 principles are at the core of motivation: a definite major purpose and a burning desire to achieve it.

For example, Ford, Edison, and Carnegie all had a definite major purpose – they knew exactly what it was that they wanted. And they had the desire to achieve it – they stoked the fire of they desire in their mind’s eye through visualization, which cultivated their unstoppable determination.

Most people struggle through life, but quite honestly, the 10 steps to a happy and successful life have already been built for all those who dare to climb them:

  1. Decide exactly what it is that you want out of life.
  2. Put it in writing & read it regularly.
  3. Come up with plans for achieving it.
  4. Study up on it.
  5. Find somebody who’s done it already & model them.
  6. Think about it & visualize it often.
  7.  Pray to God and/or your subconscious mind for help and guidance.
  8. Be grateful for it as though it was a present fact.
  9. Link pain to not working on it, and pleasure to taking massive action.
  10. Chip away at the stone, day after day until your masterpiece is created.

“Opportunity Is Missed By Most People Because It Is Dressed In Overalls And Looks Like Work”*

Experience has taught me that it’s harder work to go through life putting most things off than to actually do them. When you put things off, you still expend a lot of time and energy thinking about whatever it is that you want to do, and know that you should be doing. Plus, you end up feeling lousy about yourself because you’re a slacker.

Conversely, when you work on your goals it releases an endorphin rush that can become addictive. And it raises your levels of self-esteem, confidence, and happiness. Which then gets you even more motivated.

Since you’re going to live out your life one way or the other, why not spend it working on your goals because only then can you make all your dreams come true, and leave your mark upon the world.

All the best, – Herb.

Top 10 Self-Help Books Of All Time

I’ve read hundreds of self-help books, so it was hard to choose my top 10. But, considering when I read them, how they made me feel, and how much they helped me to improve – here they are. I’ve enclosed links to free copies wherever I could:

#1 – Success Through A Positive Mental Attitude {<Free Audiobook} by Napoleon Hill & W. Clement Stone

Every time I read or listen to this book, I can’t help but feel incredible, unstoppable, and motivated.  In fact, I devised my favorite self-motivator – “Just Do It Now” from this book’s, “Do It Now” and Nike‘s slogan, “Just Do It.” At it’s very core, our lives really are just the result of two attitudes – positive & negative. Let this book show you how to win with PMA.

#2 – The Secret Of The Ages {<Free Copy} by Robert Collier

I first became enlightened to the possibilities of the law of attraction, the universal laws of mind, and a God of some sort by reading this classic book. I can honestly say that it profoundly changed my life forever. If your interested in the esoteric side of life & self-improvement insights that go beyond the norm then check it out.

#3 – Think And Grow Rich {<Free Copy} by Napoleon Hill

I love this classic book not only for its life changing lessons and sheer historical value, but also for the way it came to pass – inspired by Andrew Carnegie, Hill interviewed over 500 of the wealthiest & most successful entrepreneurs of his era in developing his 17 principles of success. Since success always leaves clues, if you want to be successful then read this book.

#4 – The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind {<Free Copy} by Joseph Murphy

To change & improve your life, you must harness the power of your thoughts. And this brilliant book taught me how to do just that. Visualizing exactly what it is that you want in your imagination, and directing your subconscious, which has the same creative powers as Universal Mind, will help make your dreams come true.

#5 – Awaken The Giant Within {<Free Copy} by Tony Robbins

Although Robbins plagiarizes from everyone including stealing the title from Orison Swett Marden, he does at least mix in his own brand of insights. And powerful insights they are. Robbins taught me the clinical & technical side of running my computer like brain & nervous system in order to help change the past and set me on the path of self-improvement.

#6 – The Power Of Awareness {<Free Copy} by Neville Goddard

The self-help book Wishes Fulfilled  by Wayne Dyer first turned me on to the mystic Neville Goddard. Then I bought the CD and a copy of this book. I’ve read & listened to it dozens of times and I always become empowered to act the part of the type of person that I long to be. This is vintage Goddard that inspired me to master the law of assumption.

#7 – How To stop Worrying And Start Living {<Free Audiobook} by Dale Carnegie

Although Carnegie is better known for his classic How To Win Friends & Influence People {<Free Audiobook} which I also love. This book really helped me to relax & stop worrying so much. It also helped put me on the path to finding my purpose in life. However, it’s best lesson may just be that in order to win an argument…don’t argue. Check it out.

#8 – No Excuses: The Power Of Self-Discipline by Brian Tracy

To have a goal, an idea, or a dream, and to never get to work on them is the ultimate waste. To me overcoming procrastination & fear is truly the master key to taking action. And taking action is what really separates the great from the average. My studies into this subject also inspired me to write my post The Lords Of Self-Discipline. Anyways, check it out & “just do it now.”

#9 – Leading An Inspired Life by Jim Rohn

Jim Rohn has had such a great influence on me that not to put him on my list seemed like blasphemy. Although his audio programs & videos are the best I’ve ever found – I also loved this book. It’s the consummate book on how to succeed. If you want change & improvement check it out. And watch this free 6 minute video – The Day That Turns Your Life Around.

#10 – NLP – The New Technology Of Achievement {<Free Audiobook} by The NLP Comprehensive Training Team

This empowering, life altering book will teach you how to harness the power of your computer like mind. who hasn’t heard of NLP? N for Neuro, stands for the nervous system. L for linguistic, stands for language. And P for programming, stands for a system that is installed to produce the results. And by reading this classic, that’s exactly what you’ll get – results. Everything from changing the meaning of bad memories to transcending into the future of your dreams, and all points in between.
